Opera for Tomorrow

Margaret "Peggy" Jones Opera for Tomorrow Scholarship Program

PBO's Opera for Tomorrow scholarship program is designed to assist a Sophomore, Junior, Senior, or a Master's or Doctoral candidate at the college/university level in furthering their studies as a music major in Vocal Performance or Vocal Music Education.

The scholarship remembers Vera Osadchuk, Larry Hagler, Barbara Creager, Johnnie Harper, and Bill & Mary Garay. Singers who have a permanent address in the Permian Basin, and attained the age of 19 by September 1 of their second year in residence at an accredited college or university music program are eligible to audition.

Two scholarships will be awarded. First Place will receive a $2000 award, and Second Place will receive a $1500 award. Both awards will be sent to the winners' designated college/university in two equal payments in September and January, after Permian Basin Opera receives winners' proof of enrollment in those respective semesters. If the First Place winner becomes ineligible to receive any part of the monetary award, the Second Place winner will receive the balance.

Repertoire requirements: (1) All repertoire must be performed from memory; (2) singers must be prepared to perform two of four prepared compositions from classical music repertoire such as arias and art songs (not Broadway musicals); (3) arias and art songs must be performed in the original language of the composition; and (4) two of the selections must be arias from operas and one of the four selections must be in English.

ATTENTION!

The deadline for the Scholarship Application is November 30, 2019!
